Due to it's ability to constantly
alter structure; The influenza virus is often referred to as - " the
terrorist."
In 1918 it appeared as an H1NI and was responsible for an estimated 40,000,000
deaths.
In1952 it showed up as a H2N2 - 1,000,000 dead. In 1968 as a H3N2; (
" asian flu " ) that one is still with us.
In 1997 the H5N1 arrved in H.K, and in 2005 we are hearing evidence of it
crossing the species barrier.
